My CRAWLEY family is currently known back to James CRAWLEY, born in about 1778 in Franklin Co., North Carolina. At present, we do not know who his parents were. We also do not know the name of his first wife (whom he married before 1798 in North Carolina), but we do show that he had four children by his first wife: Ginathan, Stephen Kern, Velvey D. and Lucy CRAWLEY. Records indicate that after his first wife died, James married again to Mahala COTTINGHAM in 1813 in Jasper Co., Georgia. By his second wife, he is believed to have had the following children: Nancy R., James Asbury, Sarah J. and Francis Marion CRAWLEY. James CRAWLEY, my 4th Great Grandfather, died in Orchard Hill, Pike County (now Lamar County) Georgia sometime after 1860.

Ginathan CRAWLEY, my GGG Grandfather, was born May 4, 1799 in North Carolina, possibly in Franklin County. A likeness of Ginathan Crawley is below.

Ginathan Crawley

Ginathan was first married to Elizabeth RODGERS in 1821 in Jasper Co., Georgia. Next to nothing is known about Elizabeth at this time except that she was born on April 15, 1804 in North Carolina. They had the following children: Antonette, Elizabeth Jane, Francis B., Kizia F., Delila, Sanders Andrew Jackson, Ginathan, James, John, David L., D.M., Bird L. M., Joanah and Roseller Amanda Clementine CRAWLEY. Elizabeth Rodgers CRAWLEY died in 1857 in Spalding County, Georgia, and Ginathan then married, in 1859, Elizabeth ELLERSON. They had one son, Bartow CRAWLEY. Ginathan CRAWLEY died in Spalding County, Georgia in 1881. He is buried in the Crawley/Futral Cemetery, located in East Griffin, Spalding County.

Roseller Amanda Clementine CRAWLEY, my GG Grandmother, was born in 1850 in Pike County, Georgia. In 1869 she was married to Charles Milas Hammond in Spalding County, Georgia (just north of Pike County) and had the following children: Ida Clementine, Jesse Franklin, Mary Elizabeth, James Thomas, Susie Pearl, Cleo and Ella Estelle HAMMOND. Rosie CRAWLEY HAMMOND died in 1926 in Spalding County, Georgia, and was buried next to her husband in the County Line Methodist Church Cemetery, Birdie, Spalding County, Georgia.

Mary Elizabeth HAMMOND, my Great Grandmother, was born in 1870 in Spalding County, Georgia. She lived her entire life in the Birdie community of Spalding County, Georgia. In 1890 she was married to Walter Phlem COLEMAN, also of the same community. They had the following children: Myrtice Idell, Annie Lee, Clara Lois and Walter COLEMAN. Mary Elizabeth HAMMOND COLEMAN died in 1948 in Spalding County, Georgia. She was buried next to her husband in the County Line Methodist Church Cemetery, Birdie, Spalding County, Georgia.
